Maths at Hamilton Academy
Mathematics teaches us how to make sense of the world around us; to calculate, reason, problem solve, and recognise pattern in both number and space. Maths is a core subject, teaching fundamental life skills such as addition, subtraction, times tables, recognising shapes in 2D and 3D, telling the time and money handling.
We embed Maths into a range of other subjects to reinforce its everyday applications, and emphasise the contribution made by many cultures to the development and application of Mathematics.
Nursery and Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum New Framework (2021). Years 1-6 follow the New National Curriculum 2014 for Mathematics and the White Rose Hub programme of study, which outlines termly objectives by year and ensures children have mastered each stage before they progress.
