Pupil Premium and Sports Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is a Government grant awarded directly to schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged children.

Who is eligible for funding?

Children whose parents are on a low income or benefits may be eligible for Pupil Premium; you must complete the application form (sent to new students in their admissions pack and available from the school office) and we will inform you by email whether your child is eligible or not.

Eligibility triggers the following benefits:

  • Pupil Premium funding to the school, which we use to enhance the children's learning
  • Vouchers for food and activities during the school holidays
  • Free hot lunches if your child is in Years 3-6 (Reception-Year 2 all receive free lunches through a separate government scheme)

Whether or not you are eligible for Pupil Premium funding, if you are struggling financially you can also apply for an Access Fund grant direct from the school for expenses such as music lessons or help with the Year 6 Residential Trip. Applications are treated confidentially, please contact the school office for a form. We would also encourage you to speak with our Designated Safeguarding Lead as there may be other ways in which we can offer support.

How we use the funding

At Hamilton Academy we work together to ensure eligible children receive the right support to help them develop personally, socially and academically.

We treat children as individuals and tailor streamlined and focused strategies for them. Socio-economic factors have long-lasting effects on children and their learning, so we constantly evaluate, plan and implement further strategies to help them throughout their Primary years.

Following guidance from the Educational Endowment Foundation, we consider the following three areas; high quality teaching, targeted academic support and wider strategies.

We regularly use Pupil Premium grants to subsidise extracurricular activities such as school trips to ensure that all children have equal access to these enriching experiences.

Our Vision

In line with our school values of ASPIRE (Achievement, Self-belief, Perseverance, Integrity, Respect and Equality), we want all children to be empowered to reach their full potential.

We aim for our children to attain highly and to contribute to a society where opportunities are more equal for all children, irrespective of their backgrounds and economic circumstances.
